Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Bwindi impenetrable national park,

On the first day of this 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, you will be greeted by our driving guide, who will educate you on the safari as you prepare for your domestic flight to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. There are morning and afternoon flights, so you may select your flight based on your arrival time or preferences. The flight takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes, saving you an 8-hour journey on the road. When you arrive at Kihihi airstrip, your driver guide will meet you and transport you to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on an optional community trip in neighbouring communities, where you will meet the Bakiga and Batwa/pygmies who used to live in the Bwindi forest before it was designated as a national park. During the community tour, you will have the opportunity to interact with locals, learn about their lifestyle, culture, and way of life, sample their traditional dishes, enjoy entertainment from Batwa women in the form of music, dance, and drama, and explore the forest where the Batwa used to live, among other activities. After the village visit, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

After an early breakfast on the second day of your 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will take a packed lunch from the resort and meet your driving guide at the park headquarters for a lecture on the laws and regulations for gorilla trekking. After the briefing, you will be separated into groups of eight individuals, with each group assigned a gorilla family to hike and a park guide who is familiar with gorilla pathways to follow.

Gorilla trekking trips in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park begin about 8:00 a.m. and last between 30 minutes and 7 hours, depending on where they are located, because gorillas tend to travel from one location to another looking for food.

Throughout the gorilla trekking experience, you will see additional primates such as vervet monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, olive baboons, bird species, and animals, among others. Once the gorillas are located, you will be permitted to spend one hour with them in their natural environment, where you will be able to snap photographs, see them going about their daily routines, record films, and learn about their behaviours and habits, among other things. After the one-hour experience with the gorillas, you will return to the park headquarters, where you will be issued a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking. You will then meet your guide and be transferred to the lodge for an evening of leisure, dinner, and sleep.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

Following breakfast on the third day of your 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide for the travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park takes around 3 to 4 hours, going via the Ishasha sector, which is located in the park’s southern region. The Ishasha area is well-known for its tree climbing lions, who may be seen lounging up in the acacia and fig tree branches during the game drive. Following the game drive, you will have lunch on route and then proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will see plenty of wildlife as you drive to the lodge for dinner and stay.

Day 4: Morning game drive/ lion tracking and afternoon boat cruise

On Day 4 of your 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, you will have an early breakfast before your driving guide picks you up from the lodge for an exciting wildlife drive or lion tracking adventure in Kasenyi plains. During the wildlife drive, you will see elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, warthogs, predators such as lions and leopards, and a variety of bird species. After the wildlife drive, you will travel to Lake Katwe, a Crater Lake, where you will engage with locals who make a living by removing rock salt from the lake and selling it to traders. Lake Katwe also hosts migrating birds such as flamingos, which are usually spotted in October. After the Crater Lake excursion, return to the lodge for lunch.

Afternoon Boat cruise,

After lunch, you will go to a landing place at the premium Mweya safari lodge for an intriguing boat tour over the Kazinga channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. During the scheduled boat cruise, which begins at 2:00pm, you will be able to enjoy stunning views of the beautiful scenery and landscape, as well as see animals such as elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, and waterbucks drinking water along the banks, large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, and aquatic birds such as herons, fish eagles, kingfishers, hornbills, cormorants, and bee-eaters, among others. After the boat excursion, which lasts around 2 hours, you will go back to the lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and guided nature walk

After breakfast on Day 5 of your 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park, your driving guide will pick you up from the lodge and bring you to Kyambura Gorge for a lecture on chimp trekking laws and regulations. After the briefing, you will begin trekking through the forest in search of habituated chimpanzees, and once found, you will spend one hour with them in their natural habitat, observing their habits and behaviour, watching them feed, breastfeed, hunt, fight, play, rest, take photos, and record the events. After spending one hour with the chimps, you will meet your driving guide and return to the lodge for lunch.

Nature walk

After lunch, you will go on an interesting nature walk through the park, where you will be able to get up close and personal with animals such as Uganda Kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, buffaloes, and elephants, listen to the sweet sounds of bird species, enjoy the cool breeze, and take beautiful pictures, among other things. After the guided nature walk, you will return to your lodge for some relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Fly/ drive back to Entebbe

On the final day of your 6-day fly-in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, you will check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide for a transfer to Mweya airstrip for your flight to Entebbe International Airport, where you will board your international flight home.
