Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale national park
Depending on your pickup location in Uganda, on the first day of the 4 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari, you will be greeted by our representative, who will brief you about the safari before beginning the travel to Kibale National Park in western Uganda.
The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours via the Kampala-Mubende road; along the way, you will stop for lunch in Fort Portal and enjoy spectacular views of the beautiful landscape, traditional homesteads, local people, terraced farmlands, tea and banana plantations, views of the crater lakes, and the Rwenzori mountain ranges, among other things. Upon arriving at Kibale Forest National Park, you will settle into the lodge for an evening of leisure, dinner, and overnight stay at your preferred lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk
After an early breakfast on the second day of your 4 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari, your driving guide will pick you up from the lodge and transport you to the park headquarters for a lecture on the laws and regulations of chimp trekking. Following the briefing, you will begin hiking through the jungle, which will take between 30 minutes and 4 hours, depending on where the chimps spent the night before.
During the trek, you will see butterflies, birds, plants, primates, and mammals, among other things, and once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat, allowing you to observe their behaviors and habits, watch them feed, breastfeed, play, hunt, fight, rest, and take photos and record videos with a flashless camera. After the chimpanzee hike, you will meet your driving guide and return to the lodge for lunch.
Following lunch, you will proceed on an amazing nature walk through Bigodi swamp, where you can see animals like as duikers and Sitatunga, primates such as vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and a variety of bird species such as the great blue turaco, among others. Following the nature walk, you will return to the lodge for leisure, dinner, and overnight stay as described above.
Day 3: Guided Forest Hike
On the third day of your 4 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari, you will have breakfast at your lodge and then meet up with your driver guide. You will drive to the park for briefing before heading into the forest accompanied by park rangers/guides. The forest hikes in Kibale Forest National Park commence from either Kanyanchu or Sebitoli; and take you through local communities that live near the forests of Kikoni, Nyaibanda and Nyakalongo. You will have a chance to view a variety of birdlife and wildlife in the forest including the Bushbucks, forest Duikers, Forest Elephants and Giant hogs to mention but a few.
Kibale Forest National Park is home to approximately 370 bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics like the Blue-headed bee-eater, Nahan’s francolin, and the Lowland masked Apalis to mention but a few. This make Kibale national park a great destination for birding tours in Uganda.
After your hike, you will head back to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at leisure. Later have dinner and overnight as described above.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala
After an early breakfast on the final day of your 4 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking, you will check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide for the journey to Kigali. On the journey, you will have lunch and enjoy breathtaking views of the gorgeous environment, traditional homesteads, terraced farmlands, and more. Upon arrival, our driving guide will drop you off in Kigali town.
