This East African nation is simply scenic, that’s why it receives as many visitors on a daily coming into the country to experience its magnificence. Well, as much as this country is beyond beautiful, one can fail to get a place to visit when they are Rwanda because of its overflowing beauty, leaving you spoilt for choice.
But don’t worry in this article we share some popular places and some unique places you can visit when you go to Rwanda.
- Volcanoes National Park
If all else fails, you shouldn’t fail to visit is mountain gorilla home in Rwanda. Located about 3 to 4 hours from the country’s capital Kigali this park is one of the four parks in the region that harbors the famous and rare mountain gorillas. When you visit it you will definitely see the famous gorillas, and you will also have the chance to hike 3 of the 5 virunga massifs, visit the dian fossey center and do a couple of other things. On top of the mountain gorillas, you will be sure to also spot other forest animals like the golden monkeys, bush elephants and many more.
- Akagera National Park
Given that the Volcanoes National Park, is just a mountain gorilla park meaning your will have only the primates, you have then had to visit the unique Akagera national park, which is a savannah grassland park with some of the other land mammals in the country. Animals like lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, impalas, topis, antelopes, zebras, giraffes and many more.
- Nyungwe Forest National Park
This is one of the continent’s largest and oldest rain forest. People like to visit this forest to witness its beauty and ancient nature but also when they are there, they get to see numerous forest animals like chimpanzees, baboons and monkeys among others. But other things that will interest you in this park are the plantations, canopy walk, water falls and of course the surrounding communities.
- Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre
When you are in the capital Kigali, don’t miss out on visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre that is right in the heart of the city. This center is part of the facets that tell the story and history of Rwanda; and you wouldn’t want to miss out on the details of the story told in this center
- Lake Kivu and Gisenyi
Lake Kivu on the border of Rwanda and DRC, gives is one destination for relaxation and just enjoying stunning views with a combination of water activities. And just within the lake’s proxy is the Gisenyi beach with several activities like beach games, fishing and other things.
- Musanze Caves, Virunga mountains, Dian Fossey’s Grave
These you can enjoy when you visit Volcanoes National Park because they are in the same vicinity. You get the chance to see and mover around the grave of famous primatologist Dian fossey. There is also a primate research center where you can learn more about primates. Then the 3 virunga mountains Bisoke, Karismbi and Muhavura; you can challenge yourself to climb or hike any of them. Finally the Musanze caves are great exploration sites, when you get to teleport to the ancient times while in the current year.
