Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Visit Rwanda Safari
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Akagera National Park- Game Drive
You will meet with our expert Guide upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, who will transport you to your hotel and provide you with a pre-briefing of the trip you have planned, as well as time to relax after your long flight from your home to Africa, particularly Rwanda.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park-Visit Ibyi’wacu Village
Have breakfast in the morning and check out of your lodge. You will have a morning game drive in the park as you exit. The morning game drive gives you a chance to look out for any wildlife animals that you might have missed seeing in the previous game drive.
You will then proceed with your drive to Volcanoes national park with a stopover in Kigali city for lunch. Upon your arrival in the park, you will embark on a cultural tour to visit Ibyi’wacu village which is also known as the ‘Gorilla Guardians Village.’ Get to interact with the friendly locals, dance to traditional Rwandan songs, dress in traditional attire and also visit the former king’s palace.
Drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking
Wake up to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of Gorilla trekking groups. Later, you will head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga massif for your Gorilla trek.
The trek can be anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the Gorillas and upon finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to see and take photos after which you exit the forest.
Meet your driver/guide and transfer back to the lodge. Later in the afternoon for a cultural tour at Ibyi’wacu Cultural tour. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park- Canopy Walk
Have breakfast in the morning and embark on a 5 hours’ drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park with a stopover for lunch enroute. Upon your arrival in Nyungwe, you will embark on a 2 hours hike along the canopy walkway in the forest. Get a chance to view a number of birdlife and wildlife species.
Dinner and overnight stay at your selected lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trek and Tea Tour
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3-4 hours or more depending on their location. After your trek, you will have your packed lunch and return back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you.
You will then proceed to visit Gisakura tea estate for a tour of the tea fields and learn how tea in Rwanda is processed for both local and international consumption. Later driver back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali
This will be a more leisurely drive back to Kigali with the visits enroute that you may have missed that is the King’s palace, Butare museum and connect to Kigali for drop off. This day you may opt to include an optional city tour in Kigali if you may have some time to spare. Drop off will be at Kigali international Airport or as you will advise.
