Detailed itinerary for 9 Days Honeymoon Kenya and Tanzania Safari!
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi-Kenya.
When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be greeted by our official company representative from Explore Rwanda Tours who will assist you with your bags and visa requirements. They will also provide some welcome refreshments. Your driver/guide will take you to the hotel for supper and overnight stay in Nairobi.
Day 2: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve
You’ll leave early in the morning from Nairobi and set off for the Masai Mara National Reserve. It is one of the few sites on Earth where species may still be found in the numbers that used to roam the African plains and woods. As the northernmost point of the huge Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara witnesses a stunning seasonal migration of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and predators. You will arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon wildlife drive.
Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at the camp or lodge.
Day 3&4: Full Day Game Drives in Masai Mara
Following breakfast, we will go on a full-day game drive, with a packed lunch supplied. The reserve is well-known for its black-maned lion and its diverse resident animals. It’s also one of the few spots where you can spot the Big Five on a morning game drive. Many cheetahs are so docile that they seek shade from the blazing sun under a car, and a few even climb onto the roof to obtain a better view of potential food.
For bird enthusiasts, around 500 species have been documented, including 16 eagles, several hawks and falcons, 6 vultures, 8 storks, 4 bustards (including the Kori bustard), and 9 sunbirds.
Have dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Serengeti National Park.
You will go on a morning wildlife drive in the Masai Mara. We’ll start the day with an early morning wildlife drive in Masai Mara before heading out of the national reserve. After crossing the border, proceed to Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. On the route, there is an opportunity to visit the famed Olduvai Gorge, where Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the first man to walk the Earth. After a brief lesson about the archaeological digs and geology of the gorge, you will have opportunity to tour the modest museum.
It will be a long day of driving, but the game drives into and out of the parks may be quite spectacular.
Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 6&7: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti NP
You’ll spend two full days in the Serengeti with a flexible itinerary and unrestricted miles.
The huge Serengeti spreads out in front of you as you summit the ridge. Serengeti translates to “endless plains” in Kiswahili. This 6,900-square-mile (18,000-square-kilometer) park is home to about 2 million big species, including over a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelle. Large predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the region because of the amount of food that migrates around the park. Many smaller creatures, including rock hyrax, bat-eared fox, mongoose, honey badger, jackal, monkey, baboon, and African hare, live in the region, as do almost 500 different bird species.
During the afternoon session, you’ll go on a game drive to the campground. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at a public campground or a private tented camp/lodge.
Day 8: Transfer to Ngorongoro
For this day, we recommend getting up extremely early to go on an early morning game drive (when the animals are more active) and view one of the most spectacular sunrises you’ve ever seen. After the wildlife drive, we’ll return to the camp for a delicious lunch before heading to Ngorongoro, the 8th Wonder of the Natural World. The crater covers 102 square miles and has 2,000-foot-high walls, making it a genuine Noah’s Ark and home to practically every type of animal native to East Africa. It is one of the very few places on the continent where you may see the black rhino.
The crater has a river, various marshes, a soda lake with a large number of flamingos, a forest, and open grasslands. It is also known for its elephants, which are the biggest in the world and have enormous tusks. The Ngorongoro Crater is a wonderful natural wonder.
You’ll get to Ngorongoro in time for a sundowner. It is possible to upgrade your accommodation level.
Day 9: Crater Drive and Transfer to Arusha
We will begin the day early and descend into the crater bottom for an unforgettable morning of animal viewing in one of the most beautiful sites on Earth. Following the wildlife drive, there will be time for a picnic lunch by the picturesque hippo lake. After lunch, we’ll do a brief game drive before ascending the crater and leaving Ngorongoro Conservation Area for Arusha. We plan to be back in Arusha by 5:00 p.m. However, we are adaptable if there is a flight to catch or other circumstances arise.
