Detailed Itinerary for 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania Combined Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda
Airport pickup and transfer to your Hotel in Kigali. Early arrivals can take optional tour of Kigali city and the surrounding areas. Overnight and Dinner at your lodge.
Day 2: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes NP (Approximately 3 hour’s drive)
Our representative will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and enjoy a brief tour of Kigali city including a visit to the local market and the Kigali Genocide memorial Centre, Kandt House Museum, Nyamirambo Women’s Centre, and Caplaki Craft Village.
Later transfer you to Volcanoes national park for a visit to the Musanze Caves which are one of the oldest cave networks in Rwanda. Later drive to lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trek and Ibyi’wacu Village Tour
Breakfast will be served early and lunch will be packed. The briefing is at 7 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the golden monkeys you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours.
Trekking through the steep, bamboo slopes and then finally coming across the golden monkeys camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Once you reach the golden monkeys, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Upon completion of this magical encounter, you will connect again with your driver / guide and drive to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while.
After lunch, you will head out for a cultural experience at Ibyi’wacu village which is also known as the “Gorilla Guardians Village.” Get an opportunity to learn more about Rwanda’s rich cultural history as you visit the former King’s Palace and watch traditional Rwandan folk dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe. Later return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at same lodge as above.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi and Afternoon Batwa Cultural Tour (Approximately 4-5 hour’s drive)
Have your breakfast in the morning and linkup with your driver guide and embark on a 4-5 hours’ drive transfer to Bwindi National Park in Uganda. Enjoy the scenic drive to the park with a few stopovers on the way so as to allow you ample time to take pictures. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge and then later in the afternoon head back out for a Batwa cultural tour where you will visit to the neighboring Batwa (Pygmies) Community.
Get a chance to interact with the friendly Batwa people and learn more about their rich history as well as be entertained to traditional dance and singing performance from the locals. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
Have breakfast and transfer you to park offices for briefing about Mountain Gorilla trekking by the park warden then connect to the forest to search for the gorillas. The time taken is usually between 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Meeting the gorillas unexpectedly is one of the most captivating lifetime experiences. You will have a chance to observe and take pictures at very close range. You will observe adults feeding and groaning among themselves. After an hour with the long-awaited gorillas, your ranger guide will lead you back to the starting point where your driver will readily be waiting to transfer you back to the lodge for a restful evening. Have dinner overnight stay at lodge as above.
Day 6: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Afternoon Boat Cruise (Approximately 2 hours’ drive)
After a hearty breakfast meal at your lodge, check out and meet up with your driver guide. You will then embark on your journey to Lake Bunyonyi located between Kisoro and Kabale district. Lake Bunyonyi which is also known as ‘Lake of Little Birds’, is the second deepest lake in Africa measuring about 25 kilometers long, 7 kilometers wide and approximately 1,962 meters above sea level. It has 29 islands with a few being occupied by locals; and it’s also home to over 200 bird species including; Sunbirds, raptors, golden-backed weaver, bee eaters, pin tailed Whyder, great cormorant, Bronzy sunbird, Hadada ibis, grey shrike, malachite kingfisher, fan-tailed widow bird, and black herons among other birds.
Upon your arrival at Lake Bunyonyi, you will check into your lodge and have lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for a boat cruise on the lake which will give you a chance to explore the punishment island on the lake as well as other attractions.
Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 7: Transfer to Kibale National Park (Approximately 5-6 hours’ drive)
Wake up at leisure and have your breakfast. After checking out of your lodge, you will connect with your driver guide and drive to Kibale National Park with lunch enroute to the park and a stopover to visit the Amabere Caves located on the outskirts of Fort Portal. A short 15-30 min hike to the caves will bring you to a small waterfall that is at the entrance to the caves. If you are still up for more exploring, you can do an optional hike to top of the world which is approximately a 3-4 hours’ hike leading you to the Ndali Kasenda Craters of Kibale. The crater lake area comprises of over 60 amazing explosion craters including Lake Nkuruba, Lake Nyabikere and Lake Nyinambugu among others.
Later arriver at your lodge and refresh yourself. Overnight and Dinner at your lodge.
Day 8: Chimpanzee Trek and Optional Bigodi Swamp Walk
Take early morning breakfast and go for briefing and start chimpanzee trekking. Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Africa for chimpanzee tracking. Kibale’s 795km2 National Park contains one of the most beautiful and with the most varying tracts of tropical forest in the whole of Uganda. This is place to a number of forest wildlife, most especially 13 species of primate coupled with chimpanzees.
After trekking you will have lunch and relax at your lodge. In case you wish to explore more of Kibale forest, you can do an optional guided nature walk at Bigodi Swamp. Here, you will get an opportunity to view a number of bird species including the prehistoric Shoebill Stork. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 9: Transfer to Entebbe (Approximately 5 hours’ drive)
After you have had your breakfast, you will drive to Entebbe with lunch en-route and a stopover the Equator Monuments at Kayabwe. You will have ample time to take pictures at the equator monuments and also visit the craft shops in the area where you can get a few souvenirs for your friends and loved ones.
Arrive at Entebbe in the late afternoon and check into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 10: Fly to Masai Mara-Kenya
Have breakfast; connect to Entebbe airport for your onward flight to Masai Mara. Aero-link Uganda operates daily flights from Entebbe to Masai Mara. Flight to Masai Mara depart Entebbe airport at 12:15 and arrive in Masai Mara at 14:30 hours. Upon arrival at one of the allocated airstrips in Masai Mara, you will be met by your Kenya safari guide to drive you to your booked lodge for late lunch.
Later evening connects for an evening game drive which is a rewarding game viewing experience on which you will spot predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs as they try to hunt in the dark times of the night with a help of a spotlight. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, check-in and stay overnight at transfer to your reserved lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 11: Full Day Game Drive Safari in Mara
Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and grab your packed lunch and meet your safari driver to head to the plains of Maasai Mara for a full day adventure in this stunning savannah vegetation of Masai Mara as you watch many animals in large numbers such as lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeests, zebras and many more. You will enjoy your picnic lunch and proceed for a game drive till the sun goes down. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight at lodge as above.
Day 12: Visit Masai Bomas and Transfer to Serengeti NP via Isebania.
Have a relaxed breakfast meal at your lodge and later check out. You will reconnect with your driver guide and head out on a community cultural tour to the Masai Bomas on your way out of Masai Mara. Get an opportunity to interact with the friendly locals and learn more about the interesting Masai culture through their traditional dance and singing performances. You will then have lunch and then proceed to Serengeti National Park via the Isebania border. Our Tanzania representative will on the Tanzania side once you have cleared with immigrations at the border.
Embark on about a 2 hour’s drive to Serengeti national park, arriving in the evening. Check-in at your lodge and later have dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 13: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park.
You will have breakfast at your lodge as you prepare for morning game drive in the savannah plains of Serengeti national park to see various wildlife species which are very active in the morning and can easily be spotted as you also enjoy the sunrise.
Your lunch will be served at your lodge after your morning game drive. Later in the evening, you will engage in another game drive to see wildlife species such as the big five like lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos and elephants. You will also see other wildlife and bird species which include wildebeest, waterbucks, antelopes, zebras, kudus, hippos, buffalos among others. You will return to your lodge after your evening game drive for dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 14: Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area for Crater Game Drive and Transfer to Arusha
After breakfast at your lodge in Serengeti national park, you will check out of your lodge and proceed for an en route game drive on your way to Ngorongoro conservation area. Your lunch will be served before you descend to the Ngorongoro crater to see different attractions such as Lake Magadi which is found at the center of the crater.
As you explore the Ngorongoro crater, you will also see flamingos along the shores of Lake Magadi in big numbers as well as other bird species. You will also look out for wildlife species in the crater area such as elephants, buffalos, rhinos, zebras, waterbucks, antelopes, hyenas, gazelles, kudus, predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs. You will also enjoy beautiful views of the scenery around you as you explore the Ngorongoro conservation area.
After your game drive, you will proceed with your drive to Arusha where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice. (Given that your arrival in Arusha will be in the late evening, you will have to book a late night flight out of Tanzania in case you are flying out on this day. Alternatively, you can let us know if you would prefer we book you a night at a hotel in Arusha which will be included in your price quotation.)
