This 14 Days Rwanda and Kenya Safari is a combined tour that allows you to explore top primate and wildlife destinations in Rwanda and Kenya. During this combined safari, you will track mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest national park. You will then fly to Kenya for exquisite game drives in Kenya’s wildlife parks including Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru National Park and Masai Mara National Park. This tour begins in Kigali, Rwanda and ends in Nairobi, Kenya.

Detailed Itinerary for 14 Days Rwanda and Kenya Safari.

Day 1: Arrival

On arrival in Kigali, you will be met by our company representative and transfer to Kigali city where you will embark on a city tour visiting Kimironko market and the Gisozi genocide memorial site. You will check in at your hotel where you will have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After having breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will start your journey to Volcanoes national park.

Have lunch and transfer to Musanze – the nearest town to Volcanoes National Park found in the northern province of Rwanda. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

 Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You will enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00am. After briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.

However, the guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and relax. In the evening, you can do an Optional community tour around Ruhengeri for a Rwanda cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay as above.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe and canopy walk  
Breakfast will be served early and embark on the drive to Nyungwe forest national park with lunch en-route. You will also engage in a canopy walk and enjoy views of the rainforest from a swing bridge. After the canopy walk, you will return to your lodge.

Dinner and overnight stay at lodge.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking.

Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then transfer back to Kigali with lunch enroute. Your guide will drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight as above.

Day 6: Flight to Nairobi

After breakfast at your lodge, you will proceed to Kigali for your flight to Nairobi. Your guide in Nairobi will welcome you, brief you about your safari and drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Amboseli national park

After breakfast, embark on your journey to Amboseli national park, which is about 5-6 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, check-in at booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

 Day 8: Full day game drives in Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, explore the park on game viewing drives in the morning and afternoon, scenery viewing, and relaxation. This park offers the opportunity to find predators either hunting or feeding on their prey. You will have your picnic lunch box while on the game drive to connect for an afternoon game drive while observing the hill offering spectacular 360 degrees’ views throughout the park with its arid areas, marshes, and lakes, and on a clear day Mount Kilimanjaro.

In the evening, the clouds are usually vividly giving you chances of viewing the snow-capped dome of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in Africa. As your return to the lodge, enjoy an evening game drive. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Naivasha (6-7 hours’ drive) – Visit Crescent island

After breakfast, transfer to Lake Naivasha via Nairobi city with en-route lunch. Upon arrival in the afternoon, visit Crescent Island Game Sanctuary – a peninsula or island on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha. A short boat trip from the mainland out into Lake Naivasha gives you access to the unique Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary, which hosts giraffes, waterbucks, elands, wildebeests, zebras, and impalas. It is also a haven for more than 200 species of birds. The lake has a lot of hippos which you can easily spot from the island. Among the resident birds are fish eagles, ospreys, lily-trotters, black crakes, and a variety of herons. Thereafter, connect to your booked lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Full day game drive in Nakuru national park

Wake up early, enjoy breakfast and connect for an early morning game drive to explore more of the park’s beauty on a game drive for animals like the lions, leopards, hyenas and different antelope species. Lake Nakuru is famous for the Black Rhino, White Rhino and the Rothschild Giraffe. Later evening, return to your hotel in Naivasha. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above.

Day 11: Transfer to Masai Mara national reserve

After breakfast, transfer to Masai Mara Game Reserve the unspoiled Savannah. It’s about 3-4 hours’ drive, Masai Mara is actually the northern portion of the Great Plains ecosystem in neighboring Tanzania bordering Serengeti National Park. It is home to the big five games such as the‌ lion, buffalo, rhino, leopard, and elephant as well cheetah, zebra, giraffe, and vast herds of plain antelope and numerous and other wildlife. Upon arrival, connect to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 12: Masai Mara full day game viewing

After breakfast, full day in the park with packed lunch in search of its popular residents, The Masai Mara plains are full of wildebeest during migration season early July to end September, zebra, impala, topi, giraffe, Thomson’s gazelle are regularly seen, leopards, lions, hyenas, cheetah, jackal and bat-eared foxes. Black rhinos are a little shy and hard to spot but are often seen at a distance if you are lucky. Hippos are abundant in the Mara River as are very large Nile crocodiles, which lay in wait for a meal as the wildebeest cross on their annual quest to find new pastures. Day 13: Hot Air balloon safari – Community tour

Wake early and be picked up by the air balloon team for your hot air balloon safari, which starts in the early morning, just in time for sunrise. For about one hour you will be floating peacefully above the ground, with a bird’s eye view of the African bush below. The capacity for this activity is limited making this a very special and exclusive experience. Breakfast will be provided.

Return to the lodge for lunch. Later afternoon, visit the Masai community for a cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above

Day 14: Transfer back to Nairobi and Departure.

After breakfast, check-out of the lodge and transfer back to Nairobi, which is about 4-5 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, connect to Jomo Kenyatta airport for your onward flight back home or to your next destination.
