6 Amazing waterfalls in Rwanda : There are more than 350 waterfalls in Rwanda, a country with an area of only 12,000 square kilometers. Waterfalls are one of the natural wonders of the world and are a valuable source of water that can be used for human consumption and other agricultural purposes. Although they can be found in many different parts of the world, the most beautiful ones are in Rwanda and are worth viewing by anyone who enjoys learning about different cultures and traveling to new places.
Most waterfalls are found in forested areas at higher altitudes and are accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicles or on foot. The rainy season runs from March to May, while during the dry season, from June to August, the waterfalls are completely dry. However, in the months of September and October, the heavy rains of the rainy season sometimes continue into the dry season, and the waterfalls may flow during these months as well. When the waterfall is not flowing, it forms a series of deep pools surrounded by steep cliffs. These pools are popular with tourists for swimming and other water activities.
- Kamiranzovu waterfall.
This waterfall is situated in the heart of Nyungwe forest national park originating from kamiranzovu swamp which is one of the deepest in the East African rift valley. During the rainy seasons, the volume of water flow through the falls increases considerably and it is one of the best places to be visited in Rwanda.
- Ruhondo waterfalls.
Ruhondo waterfalls are located next to the Gishwati Lake in Gishwati-Mukura National Park. The best time to visit the waterfalls is after heavy rain when the volume has greatly increased making the falls very spectacular, but caution should be taken as the slippery rocks can be dangerous to climb. Despite their size, these waterfalls are not as high as some popular ones such as Iby’iwacu falls but are very beautiful and refreshing nonetheless.
- Cyanoco falls.
There is a very special place for visitors in the Nyabarongo Mountains called the Cyanoco Falls which is situated in Kinigi District in the north of Rwanda. The water of these falls has a distinctive blue color caused by the presence of small amounts of minerals in the water. This is the only place in the world where one can find such a sight! The water of the Cyanoco Falls is also very cold so be careful not to drink too much too fast… the water is teeming with good bacteria after all! This destination is a must-do for anyone who loves nature! , 6 Amazing waterfalls in Rwanda

- Kibirizi falls
Kibirizi Falls is located in Gasabo District about 30 minutes away from the capital city of Kigali. The two-tiered waterfall overlooks the beautiful terraced hills and lush vegetation that are characteristic of the country’s landscape. It is also one of the most popular attractions in the area and attracts thousands of visitors every year who come to marvel at the beautiful scenery and take in the beautiful colors of the flowing water on their Rwanda safari tours.
- Nyiragongo falls
The highest waterfall, Nyiragongo, is 2,730 meters high and has a flow rate of 350 cubic kilometers per hour. The average annual rainfall in the country is 1,200 millimeters. Although this may sound like a lot of rain, it is not enough to fill the lake that feeds the waterfall because most of the rain collects in the higher reaches of the forest areas and does not reach the lake because of the steep slopes and dense vegetation. The air temperature at the location varies from 5 to 28 degrees Celsius. Depending on the time of the year in which your travel for your Rwanda safaris, however, you can expect to see some of the most amazing waterfalls on earth in Rwanda!
