Gorilla tracking is the major tour activity in Rwanda. With about 900 mountain gorillas left in the world, visiting these great apes in their natural habitats is always a remarkable experience. The Rwanda mountain gorillas live in Volcanoes National Park which is part of the Virunga region and is located in the Northern Rwanda. A gorilla trek is a tiresome but very rewarding activity which lasts between 1 to 4 hours due to the fact that the mountain gorillas are constantly moving about the bamboo forests. There are currently 7 habituated gorilla families whose movement is closely monitored by the park authorities. While on a gorilla tour, you are randomly assigned a gorilla family to track. Our expert guides work hand in hand with the park rangers to ensure that you are on the right trail of the gorilla family you are assigned to trail. When you finally meet the mountain gorillas you are allowed a maximum of 1 hour with the gorillas in which you may take some photos. Prior to the trek, travelers are always given a routine briefing by the expert park guides. This is intended to teach you about the DO’s and DONT’s while on your Rwanda gorilla safari. Rwanda gorilla tracking permits cost USD $1,500 each and allows you only 1 visit to a particular Gorilla group.
